The Berner Klaviertrio opens the Piano Trio Fest 2027 at the Zentrum Paul Klee with two piano trios by Joseph Lauber (1864-1952). Following Frank Martin's Irish Trio Fantasy at last year's festival opening, the festival continues a musical tradition that leads back to Martin's teacher and composition professor at the Geneva Conservatory.

But the evening is not solely devoted to the past. With a new commissioned work by Xavier Dayer—the Bern-based composer and head of the music department at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK)—the focus also shifts to the present. The work is dedicated to Domenico Trezzini (1670–1734), the architect from Ticino who, together with Peter the Great, was one of the co-founders of St. Petersburg.

An introduction to the concert with Prof. Robert Braissant, lecturer at the Bern University of Applied Sciences and architect of the Bern Kursaal, on the topic of architects from Ticino, also provides a deeper insight into the cultural connections between architecture, history and music.
